~Cheering! by Xegbp~

He had made it to the pinnacle of his career. He was the President of the most powerful country in the world. He commanded one of the strongest armies ever to exsist. He had it all. Or so it seemed, but underneath it all he was a simple man. He liked hanging out with his friends and being on his ranch. When he looked in the mirror he did not recognize the old man who looked back. God, this job was way more stressful then anyone told him it would be. He really just wished he could go back to that time in his life when he had been the happiest. Cheering! Cheering! Cheering!

***A cheer for you.***

In the small town South of the 1950s, our world revolved around Friday night's high school football game. Boys in flattop haircuts, driving souped up Fords and Chevrolets made a point to park alongside the stadium well before kickoff.

Some of these Bryl-Creemed pretty boys had been lucky enough to have scored girls--girls now seated alongside them in the front passenger seat. These young women, the latest crop of southern belles, frantically daubed at their faces with powder and blush while they were in the process of being shuttled to the game. Each young woman arrived at the stadium dolled up in fine fashion, unknown to their mothers, who would have not approved of heavily rouged cheeks, mascaraed eyelashes, and lipsticked mouths.

Not blessed with enough athletic ability to be one of the deified gladiators, these same duck-tailed boys, dressed in penny loafers and green checkered fitted shirts, made up for that particular deficiency in their pursuit of the fairer sex.

The deacon of the Southern Baptist church read a prayer over the loudspeaker and we all bowed our heads in reverent silence. No one questioned this ritual, nor did he or she question the jauntily staccato performance of "Dixie", led by the marching band that brought the pre-game festivities to a conclusion.
